Rebels Rock Overlook
/Overview. This was an unexpected surprise while driving up Pine Mountain on KY-2010. Along the road is this giant rock with a little space for parking and some long-established user trails. While the area was heavily trashed below, the overlooks above were simply gorgeous.
Name. After consulting a number of maps, either this rock or the one just northeast is Rebels Rock. If you’re from the area and know what’s what, please drop a comment below.
Loop. This hike can be made into a loop by moving left of the rock from the parking area and up the backside on a steep incline to the top. Make a right at the top to take in the overlooks before finding the trail down the other side.

Trail navigation. Move right of the rock and follow the cliffline around until finding a path up the rock. This is a short bit of scrambling before getting on the rock and moving uphill. The user trail is well defined, but you’ll find plenty of scrub to move through. Continue uphill and find views to the northeast, north, and west as you circle around up top. At the uppermost edge, you can look down and be directly above the parking area. Retrace your steps from here to come down off the rock and circle around past the parking area to view the backside. Here you will find the steep trail up.
