Powderhorn Arch Out and Back
/Overview. This is a nice, short mountain hike with a steady, challenging grade to reach Powderhorn Arch. This is one of three documented sandstone arches on the park’s property and is a fun one to be sure. You can continue all the way up to Chained Rock to add another couple miles to the out and back.

Trailhead. Parking is available at the Laurel Cove Trailhead with a port-o-let, picnic shelter, and trash bins available here. [map]
Trail navigation. Begin by moving to the right behind the trailhead sign and up the mountain. You’ll reach an unmarked trail intersection with a utility service road. Turn right to move northeast here. Continue on the trail until reaching Powderhorn Arch at mile 0.7. Take your time here to enjoy this playful arch and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.
CAUTION - Poisonous snakes. Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads can be found in the region. Stay alert on the trail, as snakes are commonly found taking in the warmth of the trail. Give them a wide berth or wait for them to move off the trail.
CAUTION - Bears. Black bears can be found throughout the Pine Mountain region. Be sure to follow bear aware practices. [Be Bear Aware by US Forest Service]
