The Topo Summer Trail Series is a great way to keep running over the hot summer months and to get Fall race training started in earnest. Big Bone Lick is my home trail system where I do most of my training so doing this race was a no-brainer.

The trails at Big Bone are mostly dirt single-track with plenty of roots and few rocks. Without much recent rain, the trails were mostly dry and in good shape. The race included the perimeter trail network that totals 4 miles with a short stretch on pavement.

This race was the end of my first week of training for my Fall races that include Breaks 40-miler, Rough Trail 50K, and Millinocket Marathon. Rob is training for Cloudsplitter 100, and I'll either run the 50K or pace him coming in.

Bork and Red Belly are recent trail running converts after their experience at Yamacraw 10K. They're signed up for the Rough Trail 25K in November and Handsome Klatzke may join us.
